Description
Artist: Carl Ansloos – Mr Painter
British contemporary artist.
Title: Sitting with Cézanne.
Highly regarded amongst the impressionist painters, Paul Cézanne was inspired by the extraordinary variety and splendour of the everyday world. Cézanne’s ground-breaking style, sparked one of the most revolutionary movements of the 20th century, Post-Impressionism. This movement profoundly affected the development of modern Art. Picasso referred to Cézanne as ‘The father of us all’. It is interesting to note that in his early career, Cezanne was rejected by the official Salon in Paris and ridiculed by the art critics of the day.
‘Sitting with Cézanne’, celebrates the work of Paul Cézanne, and reminds us to acknowledge the early innovators, and reflect on the great artists that came before.
Carl Ansloos uses a visual vocabulary with an idiosyncratic poetic vein, driving the narrative whilst blending, twisting, and blurring the traditional guidelines. His work aims to give the visual image context and relevance, challenging institutionalised ideals and hierarchy. He chooses not to recognise the authority of any single style or definition of what art should be, aiming to breakdown the division between high culture and everyday life.
