Description
Colorado 2018.
Yearlings born early in the season have grown significantly bigger than the youngest ones and are tricky to catch. Here Kurt takes the strain before this large calf can be put on the ground and inoculated.
It takes years of practice to acquire the roping skills for these tasks. Accuracy is everything as smart calves can see they are being cornered and often make a break for it. They need to be caught and restrained quickly or they can cause a huge wreck in the corral. Best practice is to get the first rope over the head and the second on a back leg.
The privately owned ranches are a disappearing feature of the historic West. This project set out to capture the lifestyle and traditions before they are eradicated forever.
