Turapa are the lattice artforms that sit between the carved poupou within the ancestral house. Mostly known as tukutuku - the artform is rich in narratives about narratives and histories of the iwi (tribal groups).
The pātikitiki is a customary Māori motif that draws from the flounder - following the diamond shape. It denotes abundance and manaaki (hospitality toward guests). Like portals - turapa fill the space between worlds.
