Description
Bastet, most commonly depicted as a cat or a woman with a cat's head, is the goddess of fertility, beauty, and love. Egyptian goddesses have a loving side and a warrior side. When represented as a lioness, she is called Sakhmet, the goddess of revenge and plagues. In my work, I explore Bastet's multifaceted nature and the role she played in ancient Egyptian society. Through my art, I aim to reimagine Bastet as a powerful symbol of femininity, resilience, and compassion.
Drawing on ancient iconography and mythology, I am creating images that evoke the mystery and magic of Bastet's realm. My work is also informed by contemporary feminist discourse, which challenges traditional gender roles and celebrates the diversity of the female experience.
By bringing Bastet into the present, I hope to remind viewers of the enduring relevance of ancient wisdom and the power of the feminine archetype. Through her image, we can connect to the beauty, strength, and wisdom that reside within us all.
