Description
Prayers for Peace was part of the exhibition “Indigenous,” at the Joyce Robbins Gallery in Santa Fe, NM in 2006. The painting features 187 prayer ties. A prayer tie is a small piece of cloth filled with tobacco. Each tie is secured by string tied in a way that a knot is absent. Traditionally, prayer ties are for ceremonies. Creating is ceremonial for me and I often use traditional practices in contemporary works of art. Each tie is a prayer, a prayer for peace.
