Description
When children play make believe they become fully immersed in their imaginations, this collection allows us to see how that wonderful imaginary world might look. A child takes an umbrella and jumps off something high in the hope of floating down slowly like a dandelion seed. I vividly remember trying this myself when I was a child, having that wonderful feeling of hope that it might just work and that I would drift down and land softly in the flowers, I still feel like it should work even now.
Watching my children grow I have been taken back to my own childhood and have remembered how immersed in my own fantasies I could become. When playing "Make Believe" children aren't just pretending, for that moment they are fully immersed in their own make believe idea. This piece allows us to really visualise what the child might be imagining when she holds the umbrella, takes a deep breath, and jumps.
I created this piece using watercolour and procreate. I hand painted all the individual elements in watercolour and then digitally collaged them to create the final artwork, with a few tweaks and additions in Procreate.
