Description
This is a little photographic stroll along the Chicago River, from West Jackson Boulevard up to West Lake Street; looking in towards the iconic downtown Loop. Shot with Hasselblad on medium format Kodak film, 54 individual frames, a sunny afternoon, and a great cloudscape.
Chicago is one of western civilisation's greatest cities and one I love to explore. Expressing the nature of the Loop is an interesting photographic challenge, the area is dense, lighting is difficult, due to the very tall buildings being very close together. Looking in from outside the default is usually aerial photography or grand views from across Lake Michigan. This contact sheet style of image allows me to do something different; I can move through space and time, capturing each part of the image at the height of action and best light. Breaking the typical photographic bonds of where to stand and when to press the shutter release is extremely liberating, and allows for otherwise impossible means of describing a subject.
