PFP of U #20: “The Apple”

PFP of U #20: “The Apple” is a @hemilylan x @shohanNFTs collaboration. “The Son of Man” by René Magritte depicts the uncanny, conflicted curiosity people have to look beyond what is visible. As diaspora, our collaboration took inspiration from this notion to explore the conflict between the immediate assumptions made about us, due to what is visible on the outside, and the diverse cultural beauty we have on the inside. The painted apple symbolizes the source of these assumptions and the obscurity it provides to the individual within. Inside the apple, reflecting both our assumed and new identities, we have the national symbols of our heritage represented as plum blossoms, a lotus and roses. The flowers emerging from the split apple represent our embrace of the fluidity of our numerous cultural identities. Mixed media and acrylic + digital illustration 2022
