Description
Lac Rose or Lac Retba lies north of the Senegalese coast. It is named for its pink waters caused by Dunaliella salina algae and is known for its high salt content, up to 40% in some areas.
Communities around the lake harvest and sell the salt in bulk. To safely wade through the waters, it is customary to first apply many coats of shea butter to avoid irritating one's skin.
This collection features 3 paintings of common activities that can be found happening on and around the lake.
