Description
There are already so many stories of the healing characteristics of water, so here is another that you might not have heard.
It is a popular saying that whenever an ijaw man is born, there is a river not too far off so it is not surprising that water has always had great significance in my life.
I am Ijaw from my mother’s side, a tribe known for residing in the riverine parts of Nigeria, and also for its many myths about its people emanating from water and deriving strength from it.
My name “Yinkore” was giving to me by my grandmother and it is a name that greatly ties me to my mother, and in turn, her people.
So when I am distressed, I think about water, the special gift from those before me to transform me. A spirit in and of itself, to wash away the decaying and to restore. And this piece felt like a perfect way to depict that.
The first collector of this digital piece will receive an exclusive 20 x 30 matte canvas print delivered anywhere in the world.
